Make yourself at home.

Introducing you to life at The Oval

Welcome.

Welcome to The Oval. We are looking forward to getting to know and your baby over the next few weeks and hope to make adjustment to life here as easy as possible. The information in these pages, along with your journal and parents guide should give you everything you need to know but our whole team are on hand for any questions you may have so don’t be afraid to ask!

Get to know your Keyworker

You’ll be assigned a key worker for your time with us. You will get to know all of our staff over the next few weeks but think of your key worker as your go-to point of contact for any problems, concerns or issues you may have and they will work closely with you on all aspects of life here.

Your room.

We want you to feel right at home. Your room is a safe space for you and your baby and we encourage you to make it your own with your own belongings, personal items, photos etc.

You have your own en-suite shower room for you to use, however we do ask that it is kept off limits to your baby who can use the main bathroom.

Your room was designed with plenty of storage for your things. You’ll find built in wardrobes, under bed storage and drawers to fill as you please.

Your TV has access to streaming services such as Netflix and we will be happy to show you if you are unfamiliar with how it works.

Shared spaces.

There are a number of shared spaces for you to use as you wish for the duration of your stay including Kitchen and Dining area, Play Room, Living Room and Session room.

The utility area has a number of washers and dryers to use on a rota system and we will explain how this works in more detail.

Our ‘mother’s retreat’ is a quiet room you can use when you need a break or a moment to yourself when appropriate and when baby is safe and cared for.

Toys in the playroom are all labelled with the age they are safely designed for. Children (including visitors) should be supervised at all times and encourage to play with the toys appropriate to their age.

Concerns, problems and complaints

It is important that you know if you have any concerns at any time, we are here to help and support you with them.

You have a right to complain about any aspect of the service we provide and you can do this in a number of ways outlined below, but rest assured your concerns will always be dealt with In a professional, fair manner - free from judgement.

Raise with your key worker

While any staff member will be able to help you, your key worker should always be your first port of call for raising any concerns or complaints. You can raise a concern with your key worker at any time and they will work with you to resolve them. You may want to voice a concern, or you may want to complete a complaints form and put it in writing. Your key worker will log your concerns and put processes in place to come back to you with answers, people or actions.

Raise with our manager

You will get to know the centre manager, Mary during your time at The Oval. While your key worker is best placed to support you with any concerns or complaints, if you feel the need to, Mary is always available to deal with them directly.

Independent Visitor

Each month, The Oval is audited by an independent visitor. They will always be keen to gather your feedback and thoughts to see where we can improve our service to you and may ask you if you have any issues or concerns to raise with them.

What’s next?

These pages have lots of information that you can revert back to at any time but the staff are on hand and eager to help so feel free to ask them any questions you may have.
